I wish to add my 2 cents to this debate. Why not leave the actual ruins as is, and create a digital copy of the reconstructed original design. This way we have the option of either viewing the original after innumerable years have passed or how it would look if it were reconstructed.
Like many UNESCO World Heritage Sites, there are remaining debates about leaving them in ruins or reconstructing the original design. Here, in part of Ayutthaya, the park department has left many fragments of Buddhas everywhere, placed for visitors to appreciate, but not reconstructed.
