Wow! Its really nice to see! I really enjoyed the photo..

  2. Craig Berg says:

If it is not an actual “treasury” building, then what is it?

    • Sam says:

Prior explorers thought it might be a treasury (and they destroyed parts looking for hidden treasure). Archaeologists think it was either a functional (probably religious) building or an ornate tomb – maybe a combination of both. There were royal burials beneath.

  3. Ed Pell says:

Magnificent portal from the past prior to the magnificent structure from the past … an image to ‘treasure’.

  4. barbara DIckins says:

Thanks for letting us witness the fact that peace and
serenity show up in many places.

  5. Harry Rosenbluh says:

Brings back pleasant memories. I’d seen pictures of the building many times but was struck by seeing what a small (but lovely) portion is visible from the entrance path. Your photo captures that first visible sliver that so struck me on my first visit there & made me want to see more. Thanks.

Most tourists (and many caravans throughout history) enter Petra through the Siq – a sinuous crevasse of red rock in many hues. At the end of the canyon, just like in Indiana Jones, is the gorgeous facade of the so-called “Treasury” building. Here I captured that moment of awe as Mina looked up and snapped the facade at about 8am after walking through the shaded, breezy Siq.
