One thing that sets Burmese people apart from every other nation is the application of Thanaka paste. This cosmetic & sunscreen is worn by many women and children in Burma, and this photo shows a young girl in a small village putting on her morning toilette. The paste is usually made fresh, every day, by grinding the bark of sepecific trees with water on a stone, and then applying it in patterns on the face, and sometimes also the body!
