CUTIES!!
Please know that I am joking. No prairie dogs were hurt in the production of this picture, right? Anyways, I really enjoy this photograph.
This summer on a Maine road trip we stopped in the family-friendly “York Zoo” near the New Hampshire border. The most fun photography for me was the kitschy prairie dog exhibit where the charismatic rodents prepared for battle in a giant sand fort labeled “Alamo” with cannon battlements. (Photograph taken August 2015)

I saw the real deal in the wild out west and seeing them pop up and down from their holes is so funny and looks almost mechanical. They’re adorable!
